                               Watercolor Materials
1.        Brushes: Round - number 1, 2, 4, 6 & 8
Flat - ¼ inch (with wedge shape end, for applying masking), ½ inch and 1 inch

2.        Colors (tubes): Four tubes of the primary colors from any of the following
(medium sizes): One Blue - Antwerp Blue (Windsor and Newton), and/or Prussian Blue
(M.Graham &Co.); One Yellow - Hansa Yellow Light (M.Graham &Co.) and/or Azo
Yellow (M.Graham &Co.) and/or Arylide Yellow (DVP); Two Red - Pyrrol Red or
Napthal Red (M.Graham &Co.) and Quinacridone Rose(M.Graham &Co.) Also, other
similar primary colors are OK.

3.        Paper: Half sheets or quarter sheets - Arches 140 lb Cold Press watercolor
paper.

4.        Masking Fluid: A new bottle of light colored art-masking fluid (Pebeo
recommended, less then 1.5 year old).

5.        A lightweight foldable stool for sitting when doing sketching.

6.        A watercolor painting easel
such as Bristol Watercolor Easel. A small
sketchbook and a palette.

7.        Other: One Gator Board or foam board (16”x23” if you use half sheet
watercolor paper, or 12”x16” if you only use quarter sheet watercolor paper) a roll of
masking tape or clear packing tape, water spray bottle, pencils, eraser, brush washer,
paper towels, sunscreen and a hat.

                                            Chinese Painting Materials

1. One rice paper accordion book about 19 inch long by 12 feet long. Lian will bring it
to the class for those who need it at $15 per one.

2. Chinese painting and calligraphy ink or Sumi ink.

3. Chinese painting colors (12 tube set, available from Lian $8 per set).

4. 4 Chinese painting brushes from small to extra large. Please see the images of the 4
brushes from the Chinese painting kit at the Chinese Painting Materials page on Lian
Zhen's web site: http://www.lianspainting.com. They are also available from Lian $18
for the 4 brushes.

5.  Pallet, B2 Pencils, eraser, brush washer, paper towels and a hat. Sunscreen. A
lightweight foldable stool for sitting when doing sketching.

6. Formcore or gator board about 14" x 20".

Please note: You do not need to spend time and extra money on the Chinese painting
materials. Lian will bring them to the workshop and offers a discount to students.

Feel free to bring all Chinese/Sumi painting materials you have. Lian will carry the
above materials for sale to those who need them.
