*You can order Pro Arte brushes at Jerry’s Art Supply – (800) 827-8478.   To achieve
the same brush strokes as John, it is essential you have the ProArte Series 106 Flat
brushes. These brushes are a highly recommended.  However, if you are unable to get
these, a suitable alternative would be Winsor & Newton’s Cotman series #666 in the
above sizes.

Acrylic Paints:

Alizarin Crimson                Burnt Sienna                        Burnt Umber
Cadmium Red                     Cadmium Yellow                Naples Yellow
Payne’s Gray                      Raw Sienna                         Raw Umber
Ultramarine Blue                Viridian                              White Gesso (not titanium)
Yellow Ochre

John recommends and uses Rembrandt, he feels these colors work best for washes, but
any acrylic is acceptable.

Masonite panels: 4 or 5 Qty.        9”x12”; 12”x16” (no larger than 12x16)

Oil Material List:

It is most important to have Langnickle Flat Series 5590 (soft brushes) and Winsor &
Newton’s Galeria Flat and round, to obtain the brush strokes which John will
demonstrate.  They are:

Langnickle          Series 5590 Flats                Size: #2, #4, #8, #12, #20
Galeria               Series:  Flat                        Sizes: #4, #6, #12, optional #18
Galeria               Series:  Round                    Size: #16
Loew-Cornell    Series #7120  Rakes            Size:  ¾,
Grumbacher       Series: 4623 #2, Golden Edge   Size 00 or any similar long bristle script

Again, John has specific uses for these brushes, so it is important that you have the same
brand to achieve the desired results.  The Langnickle are the best brushes for oil.

Oil Paints:

Alizarin Crimson                Burnt Sienna                        Burnt Umber
Cadmium Red                     Cadmium Yellow                Naples Yellow
Payne’s Gray                      Raw Sienna                         Raw Umber
Titanium White                   Ultramarine Blue                Viridian
Yellow Ochre

John recommends and uses Rembrandt,  and Winsor-Newton Oil Paints, he feels these
colors are rich and buttery they also have health certificates.
