Please bring the required items for your specified medium. Acrylic Material List Pro-Arte Brushes: Series #106 Flat: Size: 3/8”; ½”; ¾”; 1 ¼” Loew-Cornell : Series #7350 Size 00 liner OR Robert Simmons Series: Sapphire S51 OR American Painter Series #4050 Script Size: 00 or any similar long bristle brush Loew-Cornell Series #7120 Rakes Size: ¼ ½”, ¾, 1” American Painter Series #4650 spotter Size “0” or any similar small detail brush *You can order Pro Arte brushes at Jerry’s Art Supply – (800) 827-8478. To achieve the same brush strokes as John, it is essential you have the ProArte Series 106 Flat brushes. These brushes are a highly recommended. However, if you are unable to get these, a suitable alternative would be Winsor & Newton’s Cotman series #666 in the above sizes. Acrylic Paints: Alizarin Crimson Burnt Sienna Burnt Umber Cadmium Red Cadmium Yellow Naples Yellow Payne’s Gray Raw Sienna Raw Umber Ultramarine Blue Viridian White Gesso (not titanium) Yellow Ochre John recommends and uses Rembrandt, he feels these colors work best for washes, but any acrylic is acceptable. Masonite panels: 4 or 5 Qty. 9”x12”; 12”x16” (no larger than 12x16) Oil Material List: It is most important to have Langnickle Flat Series 5590 (soft brushes) and Winsor & Newton’s Galeria Flat and round, to obtain the brush strokes which John will demonstrate. They are: Langnickle Series 5590 Flats Size: #2, #4, #8, #12, #20 Galeria Series: Flat Sizes: #4, #6, #12, optional #18 Galeria Series: Round Size: #16 Loew-Cornell Series #7120 Rakes Size: ¾, Grumbacher Series: 4623 #2, Golden Edge Size 00 or any similar long bristle script Again, John has specific uses for these brushes, so it is important that you have the same brand to achieve the desired results. The Langnickle are the best brushes for oil. Liquin by Winsor-Newton Canvas or Masonite Panels: 4 or 5 Qty. 9”x12” and 12”x16” (no larger than 12”x16”) Only odorless Mineral Spirits will be allowed in oil painting class. We suggest oil painters bring pushpins so that they may put wet canvases together for travel, or separator boxes for masonite panels. Six (6) different subjects, to choose from. *No books, magazines or other publications are to be used for reference. No tracing or projecting of images is allowed. Three (3) digital images of recent work or works in progress for the critique. New images can be substituted at the beginning of the class, if you have newer work to be critique. John will only critique three images from each student due to time requirements. |
