"This class introduces you to new and experimental ways of painting with water based acrylics. Be ready to try one thing after another as we move from transparent to translucent to opaque! We will be exploring the use of acrylic application, heavy gel medium and gesso. Along with gold leaf, collage, transfers and other mark making and texture techniques. Emphasis will be achieving line, depth and texture in your work. We will be using techniques of: resists, lifting, staining, printing, scraping, collage, gold leaf, heavy gel medium and gesso. The focus of the workshop is abstract; however, combining abstract with realistic elements is an option. Students will be working on different hot press surface papers. We will explore beginning paintings in several experimental ways. Finishing techniques will be introduced and demonstrated. Each day will include several demos and time for the student to work. You will be working on several works at the same time. Working with the student daily, along with a private critique will be scheduled; we will be analyzing using design aids. Color mixing and basic design elements will be presented through demonstration and visual aids. Lana L. Grow is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, Red River Watercolor Society, Society of Layerists in Multi Media and the International Society of Experimental Artists. Her award winning work is included in Splash 8, Finding the Artist With In, The Art of Layering: Making Connections, and Creative Composition and Design. She had won numerous awards in International and National juried shows. A three-ring forty-three page booklet of handouts with in depth information on class demos, design, color inspirational quotes, finishing suggestion, supply sources and much more is provided to each student. I like to think I teach a class like one I would like to take. Every participant requires a full table work space. There will be morning and afternoon demos. The student is encouraged to come early and nest in and stay late to continue painting. Objective "My objective is to introduce the student to new and liberating concepts in water media painting. I strive to provide a safe creative environment for you to explore with out production stress. I hope to tap into your creative spirit and motivate your own authentic voice to evolve. Rather than have a "class room" piece of art, I strive to bring out in you, your own unique creation. A goal of mine is to inspire confidence and leave you fired up and excited to paint. These techniques will blend with what you already know and will be a stretching your creative boundaries!" |
